MEETING DAN

He found her at the staircase where she sat weeping like Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb of Jesus.

Why? He thought to himself aloud: Angels do cry?'

She gave him one icy stare with a face besmeared with tears before  shooing him off.

'Get out of my face!'

But he wouldn't budge. Not today. Nor even for few days and not after many weeks of his perpetual and repeated returns and her standoffish wall of defense. But he had lots of time at his disposal; he was a  gentleman.

Strange fear gripped her as she recounted the number of guys she has dated. All the relationships only lasted seven months and she is back at square one  This had worried her and she decided to let her friend, Tolani in on what she feared as a strange cycle of misfortune.

'That is simple, Sarah,' Tolani assured. They were going to visit a prophet outside of town.

'You will take a bath by the river and the curse will be gone like a dream', the bearded deadlocked prophet said with unmistakable assurance.

She woke up with a slight pain throbbing her groin. She sat up from the bed to survey her environment and then sprang to her feet in fright when the prophet came in with a towel tied to his waist.

'Ah... I see you are awake', he said with an uneasy smile.

'What am I doing here', she queried, trying in vain to recall whatever it was had brought her to the prophet's bed.

A scuffle ensued and she left him crashing on the white kegs of water  arranged in rows at the foot of the bed occupying half the room. It was only his voice she heard trailing behind her with curses as she made a run for her life. Her flapping bosom made her realize she was braless and the reckless dance of her behind told her she had no pants on.

She feared that like the rest of them, he too will run away and so she held her defense for as long as she could.

'What do you want from me', she asked him one day when nothing she did to him could change his mind about her.

His smile was serene and confident.

'All of you', he said spreading his two hands in her direction.

She snapped out of the reverie playing in her mind's eyes. They are in church and she is thinking of a man. Dan. Yes. That was his name. Dan has taken over every available space in her heart with his charming smile and a calm, gentle composure.

'The Lord said there is a someone here...'

Her attention turned to the minister behind the rostrum at once. A balding middle aged man dressed in a neat blue suit.

'... all the relationships you have ever been before now ends after seven months... The power of the Lord is here to deliver you...

There was a sudden crash on the plastic chairs. Someone had fallen under the anointing, screaming and rolling on the floor.

When she came to, everybody had left except Daniel who was seated on a plastic chair staring at her.

'What happened', she asked a little embarrassed. She removed the wrapper covering her.

'You fell under the anointing', he said with a knowing smile.

'Anointing....' She recalled the cold sensation she felt on her forehead as soon as the minister mentioned her case and the struggle that ensued. Something was desperately trying to come out of her. That was all she could remember. But how she got to the altar...

'The ushers had to carry you to the altar to prevent you from ruining your cloth and getting your body exposed', he explained.

'That explains the wrapper covering you up', he added'.

She stood up, dusted her skirt. She felt free and light. There was the feeling of being truly free and she has Daniel to thank for taking an interest in her and bringing her to church.

Thank you for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed this one?  Until next time. I still remain,

Yours Truly,
