SOUL, The Movie.
What happen to souls when they leave their body? Judgement? Or they travel a long journey to a place where they get to see how they lived their lives? To see whether they were fulfilled or wasted their time on earth?
Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx), a school band teacher gets a gig to play in a Jazz club . The sheer joy of it makes him put a call through to his friend to share the good news. He is carried away with the call and he falls into a man hole to his death.
Every scene of this movie is music. Jazz, piano, sax, trombone and the list is endless. Talent is rated high and finding it is the onus of every man. Joe refuses to go to the great beyond because he has been waiting a long time for the gig. It is the big break he has been expecting and he wouldn't allow death cheat him out of it.
He finds himself in a field( The Great Before) when he runs away to escape the great beyond. He is taken to You Seminar to be joined to a mentee. He is mistaken for a renowned Child Psychologist, Dr. Borgensson and that pitches him with a difficult personality, a cat named 22 (Tina Fray) who refuses returning to earth for whatever reason. Joe is to accompany her into discovering her spark/talent. Joe gets to earth with the cat but there is a problem. The cat 22 has his body while his resides in the cat. He must then convince his mother about allowing him take the gig instead of taking the job offer as a full time school band teacher.
Councillor Terry, a perfectionist at the You Seminar beyond notices a missing soul. His search brings him to earth. Joe and 22 are brought back. Joe is accused of cheating. However, the fact that 22 hasn't found her spark, gets Joe a second chance at life. He performs at the jazz club to a thunderous applause while 22 returns to its owner.
Soul is an inspiring movie to talents on the brink of throwing in the towel. Connie,(Cora Champommier) Joe's student decides to call it quit but while at the teacher's house she decides to play a new tune to see the teacher's comment. When asked if she likes it, her response is positive. She takes back the school's trombone happily, meaning she is not quitting.
At the barber's shop, 22 gave an inspiring speech that leaves the listeners enthralled. The barber wonders why he and Joe had never talked deeply about their profession. The movie is deep with a lot of lessons, one of which is to never give on your dreams even if you fail the first time. Give it another try and you are certainly going to break your own record.
Finally, in case you have not seen the movie, do so quickly and report back to me on your findings.
