MOMENT WITH CEPHAS.
His voice is the chord that draws you into his song. His name is...is....
Can we meet you?
My name is Samuel Abiodun Ajiboye.
Popularly known as Samuel Cephas
Tell us about your childhood.
My childhood was a very ecstatic upbringing. I grew up loving music believing to shoot to limelight through music and the help of God.
How did you know that music was the thing for you?
Because I've tried many other things that didn't work the only thing have been passionate and unrelenting about is music. I always see light even in the darkest state of life
Most musicians sprout from the church choir and many deviate into secular music. Why is this so?
Everybody has reasons why they do what they are doing and I don't blame them many. People feel that to get rich quick is to be singing a particular genre or type of music based on influence etc but we see people like Dbanj and Chidinma coming back to church after many years of leaving church. We just need to be personally convinced where God has called us to so as to make us stay through stormy and hard times.
Do church support upcoming gospel artists as expected?
If it's by church support, I won't have an ALBUM today. The church are human beings. They want to see your works before giving support of any kind to you but in the secular world once they notice how talented you are, they start to invest in you.
Can you say that gospel songs make more sales than other kinds of music?
Of course, yes if you do the right thing like a lot of people know Tope Alabi's music because you will realize that it's the same people that listen to other genres that come to church.
What is gospel about gospel music? Is it the fact that Christian themes are used?
No, it's not the fact. The Gospel is good news; it doesn't say Christian news or Islamic news.
It's spreading the good news of Christ through music. The lyrics can convey the themes.
What do you set out to achieve with your songs?
My love for evangelism is high and very strong.Winning souls to Christ through my music and also every home that my song will enter and whosoever listens to it should experience the genuineness and the sincerity in worship unto God. May God help me.
I observed that some gospel start out well but after major hits, they seem to lose their steam. What is responsible for this and how can it be corrected?
I feel consistency matters, not being distracted by fame and money because getting famous might make you think you have arrived just with one hit and you forget the goal.
Let's talk about your album, 'Revealed'. Why revealed? What is the idea you are trying to pass across?
In the REVEALED ALBUM the track 2 is Oro Ikoko. I can say it's the word that birthed REVEALED which means that if God doesn't reveal you to the world no one can see you.If God does not set you free, no one can set you free and there's nothing hidden to God about whatever you are going through. Do well to listen to the album and be blessed.
Must gospel artists go to music school before they can become a professional?
Some people are born great musician it's not a must tho but it's ideal to understand what you do in order to be able to defend yourself in some occasions
How do you think the church can help the music ministry of gospel artists?
The major challenge is finances. By helping in the studio recording. By recommendation and giving platforms to artists.
You listen to some so-called gospel songs and you don't feel any stirring in your spirit. Are they making songs to impart or smile to the bank afterwards?
Every music is spiritual and God is the head of all spirits every one knows there source of inspiration the stirring up in gospel songs will depend on your source of inspiration
What do you think of gospel artists who incorporate secular themes into their music?
Well, normally I don't think a spirit filled gospel artist will name a gospel song after a secular theme.
Thank you for your time
