MOMENT WITH OLIVE

We all have our little beginning in whatever we are now masters of or relatively at a  commendable stage. The young will grow if the old ones show them the way to go. It gives me great pleasure to have  an undergraduate who is interested in the art and act of poetry. Please, join me to welcome Olive Chimenka.

So, let's shoot. Who is Olive? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Olive Chimenka. I'm a 300 Level Medicine and Surgery student of Niger Delta University.

Wow! That is interesting! So, what genre of literature are you particularly interested in?

Poetry

Why poetry? What makes poetry special to you?

Poetry makes me express myself.

So, how do  you joggle poetry with studies given the fact that your course requires you to do a lot of reading?

It's passion. So I write but not all the time.

Do you have any published work?

Not really

What about poems you published on social media. Any title at all?

What were you trying to say in the poem? What message are you trying to pass across?

I wrote it from a picture

Okay. Do you mostly type your poems with a picture in the background or these two are just a stylistic deviation?

I mostly type my poems.

Let's talk about Noble Prince of Peace. What can you tell us about it?

It's all about the coming of Jesus to earth to give us peace; his death and kingship over the world.

Do you only compose christian themed poems?

No

What are titles of other poems you have written?

Cries of the Little Destitute

Struggle for Freedom

In general, what do tend to achieve with your poems? I mean the messages you intend to push forward that people can get from the poems?

Okay. I just write based on imaginations and experiences and to make people see what is happening in the society.

When you write, do you go to a secluded place or anywhere inspiration comes, you write?

Anywhere the inspiration meets me,I write.

Have you tried your hands on other genres of literature?

Yes. That was when I was in secondary school.

A short story or a play?

Both plays and prose.

What did you titled them?

I don't know. It's been long. I don't even know where they are.

Okay. So, which poets inspire you a lot with their works? Like a sort of mentor.

I belong to poetry groups on Facebook and I follow poets and poetry groups on Instagram. So I get my inspiration from there.

Do you submit your poems to be critiqued or it scares you to do so?

I submit and it's appreciated.

Thank you for your time and I hope you continue to horn your skill in poetry.

Thanks for having me.
