BIRTHDAY

It is my birthday today! It's been a while here. So, yesterday, I taught my J.S.S 3 students tips on composing a poem and I asked them to write a five-line poem which I was going to publish here. This is my own special way of celebrating my birthday. So, below are their poems. Enjoy!

 LIFE

(Abidoye Roimot)

Life's road is never straight,

It is like a long train full of loads.

So many curves, so many bends.

Sometimes it is friendly, sometimes a foe.

Sometimes it is dry and sometimes it is full of hope.

A BETTER PLACE

(Ogunleye Comfort)

When I look into the sky,

I see the moon is bright.

Soon, the sun will rule the morning

and the struggling youth

will mount the height of the sun.

DEATH

(Onwenna Mercy)

I take many away,

I come unannounced

with a fragrance of sorrow.

I am a wandering spirit moving everywhere I choose,

taking anyone, I want.

JUSTICE

(Odekunle Modesire)

Justice is a luxury car

only the rich can ride

while the poor walk in agony.

When I speak of Justice,

I think of my country, Nigeria.

FRIENDSHIP

(Ebhohimhen Joshua)

Like hotness and coldness, like the sun and the moon.

It is never too late, before it is noon.

Together we stand, on solid rock we land.

Together, we are one,

but divided, we are none.

NIGERIA

(Salami Aliyah)

Nigeria needs a better tomorrow

Nigeria, guided by better leaders

A Nigeria with a buoyant economy,

the envy of other nations.

Nigeria, a land of luxury.

BLACK & WHITE

(Opeisa Victoria)

Silence speaks in black and white

Open your heart and I will show you might

Sit with me and I will give you knowledge, wisdom and might.

In me, you find your freedom.

NIGERIA, MY COUNTRY

(Udeagbala Amarachi)

Nigeria, my country

A place full of pains and laughter,

 a country blessed but bleeding.

A place full of joy and sadness,

Oh! Nigeria, my country.

THE BEGGER

(Ayodele Gregory)

A poor beggar sits by the roadside

begging for alms

spreading prayers in exchange for nickels

But life becomes his friendly companion again

serving his story on gold platter.

THE PAIN OF DEATH

(Okoro Samuel)

The pain of death is

like a knife in my heart.

You come and go like a thief in the night

leaving me with a painful feeling of emptiness

and dread.

SORROW

(Innocent Happiness)

My happiness is gone,

friends I have none

No one to talk to

Nothing I can do

Than to silence the pain.

Thank you for reading through. See you next time.
